Couldn't be easier to use -- just plug the lamp into it & plug it into the wall. When our son was newborn & we were getting up at all hours of the night, this kept the lights low enough to keep everybody mellow but on enough to prevent broken bones. Both sets of inlaws have now bought these for the guest rooms. Truly, a godsend for new parents.

I agree with everything in the other review as far as this being an indispensible item for new parents. I also used it to turn on the light for midnight feedings so I could keep it low and the baby would go back to sleep. The absolutely noiseless turn off on the dimmer made sure my daughter didn't wake up again at the end of the feeding.

This dimmer cord helps for those lamps which don't dim on their own and one does not have a dimmer wall switch. I have about five of these in my home. All have worked well with no problems over the years. However, there is one thing that I would strongly point out. Not all of these dimmer cords have a light on the dimmer box. I accidently got one without the light and it makes it difficult to find in the dark. The light is turned on at the dimmer box and if there is no light on the box to tell you where it is in the dark room, it can be hard to find. This problem is solved if one makes sure that the dimmer box has a small light on it. The second thing that needs to be mentioned is that the outlet plug (into which the lamp plug needs to be inserted) is oriented perpendicular to the wall. If one has a lamp which has a similar outlet plug then with that lamp plug inserted in the dimmer plug which is inserted into the wall, the whole plug component is sticking about 4-6 inches out from the wall. If the outlet plug is behind a bookcase or furniture, this can be a problem. Even with a lamp plug that is flat, it will stick out several inches. Make sure there is enough space between the wall outlet and what is covering this unsightly mix of plugs and cords.

I don't really have much to say about this dimmer, because I have had two of them for years and they always work exactly as they should; nothing more, nothing less. I gave them 5 stars because they are simply excellent. I bought some other dimmers, prior to these, and they had problems. I love it when stuff works the way it should and does not have any problems. Maybe it seems silly to write such a long review for a little dimmer, but they are not so easy to find around town, and when I buy something like this online, I worry a bit. These dimmers are solid, and I would buy more if I needed them. Someone wrote a bad review, saying it broke soon after buying it; but that's probably a very isolated incident, which can happen to just about anything, even the best.

I have used these for years. They have beccome hard to find, but leave it to Amazon to have it. What I like is its appearance. It takes up very little space and looks good.

Be sure not to overload its capacity though, which I believe is 300 watts. And make sure not to spill anything liquid on it by accident or it will become an "on and off switch" only!

Bought 2 of these to control floor lights that were just out of easy reach to control. The dimmers work excellent and look perfect. Each dimmer has a very small red night light that only comes on when the lamp is completely off to help locate the dimmer control in the dark. Sliding the dimmer is easy to do and does vary the lighting amount. An excellent product.

I have one of these on the side of my bed for my lamp and for my infant son's room. Perfect for not blinding my husband! I also bought one for my disabled mother who cannot reach up to turn on a lamp. She adores it and it gives her a touch of independence! The only issue I have is there is a SLIGHT hum that emits from the unit when placed on a flat surface. I often have to place it on the side to reduce the noise.

I love this for my cheap home photo lighting setup!

Half year ago I bought two of the dimmers for my bed room, last week one of them did not work that completely a unusable one now. Only last half year of work, so it is really a non durable item! It seems a quality problem. Another problem is a buzz can be heard at nights if you put this one on the night table in your bed room, even though the slider is easy to use.

This dimmer is great in the baby's room - can go in and check on him in the night, and he used the lowest light setting as a nightlight for a while. It's easy to find the lightswitch in the dark with the red LED. We're ordering two more for our room.
