Another easy-to-carry choice perfect for hikers and outdoor enthusiasts, the X7 Hatchet is ideal for chopping kindling and small- to medium-sized logs. Like every X-Series Hatchet or Axe, the X7 combines perfected weight distribution, advanced blade geometry, an ultra-sharp edge and virtually unbreakable design to maximize your performance. This combination of features allows the blade to bite three times deeper when chopping. With more blade penetration on each swing, you can chop more wood in less time, with less effort and hand strain. Technical Details - Easy-to-carry hatchet is perfect for hikers and outdoor enthusiasts who chop kindling and small- to medium-sized logs - Chops up to three times deeper than a traditional axe to chop more faster - Perfected balance and power-to-weight ratio increases swing speed to multiply power, much like an aluminum baseball bat - Ultra-sharp blade with a low-friction coating powers through wood - Stronger-than-steel FiberComp handle won;t break through overstrike, and the PermaHead insert-molded axe head will not loosen or fly off

34 of 34 people found the following review helpful fabulous hatchet, December 13, 2008 This review is from: Fiskars 7850 X7 14-Inch Hatchet (Lawn & Patio) Hatchets just don't come better than this. It will take a very sharp edge and hold it all day long. It's not a splitting axe. It isn't an axe at all. What it is though is a tough as nails hatchet that will get any job done that a hatchet is meant to do. If you want a splitting axe get a Fiskars brand splitting axe. If you want a chopping axe Fiskars makes one of those that is also 5 stars. If you want to clear brush on your favorite ATV trail or you want to chop kindling for your campfire this hatchet can't be beat. Just don't expect it to be something it isn't. 15 of 15 people found the following review helpful one awesome ax !, March 5, 2008 This review is from: Fiskars 7850 X7 14-Inch Hatchet (Lawn & Patio) I have purchased several of these axes for my family and we love them, they are extremely sharp and cut with ease, the one fault that I'm willing to put up with is that they do dent and nick the cutting edge pretty easily because the blade is so fine edged, even when nicked up they cut way better than other axes, I have never found a better cutting edge than these Was this review helpful to you? 6 of 6 people found the following review helpful Fine lightweight hand ax, October 19, 2009 By Paul Claxton (Riverside CA) This review is from: Fiskars 7850 X7 14-Inch Hatchet (Lawn & Patio) This hand ax came razor sharp from the manufacture and has held an edge in light use so far. At 14" long it's a big hand ax and despite it's lightweight feels good in the hand. It is better suited for cutting than splitting with its blade's profile. The back end makes short work of tent stakes. Was this review helpful to you? YesNo Report abuse | Permalink Comment Comment
5 of 5 people found the following review helpful GREAT, October 18, 2009 By Bradley Thompson "giggity" (Zionsville, Indiana USA) This review is from: Fiskars 7850 X7 14-Inch Hatchet (Lawn & Patio) These axes are amazing, they cut trees down in fractions of the time others do, i used them for my eagle project where we had to gut out 600 sq yards of dense brush and trees, and it took less than 200 hours with alot of little kids workingwith them. They are comfortable, and work perfect. This is by far the best axe/hatchet i have ever seen. period. Was this review helpful to you? YesNo Report abuse | Permalink Comment Comment
29 of 39 people found the following review helpful Good handle, not so good head/steel, June 20, 2007 This review is from: Fiskars 7850 X7 14-Inch Hatchet (Lawn & Patio) I bought this axe after watching the Fiskars axes being run over with a giant truck and not breaking. Fiskars axes being made in Finland so they seem like good quality. I've been using this axe to split a lot of wood. It does a decent job on softer wood like pine. It doesn't do so well on the harder woods. This is due to the edge being too soft. It rolls very easily. Now, I'm not a metalurgist but I can tell you that either the steel used in these axes is very low quality or they just harden it very soft (53-54RC)so edges won't chip. I think it's both. In contrast, a high quality, axe type steel can be very though yet at the same time can have a thin edge to chop well. This isn't the case here. I do like the fiberglass handle that's why I still use this axe. The handle is very light so most of the weight is on the head. In summary: Good hande, not so good head/steel. 4 of 4 people found the following review helpful High quality and value, August 11, 2009 By Paul Bombardt (SW Michigan) This review is from: Fiskars 7850 X7 14-Inch Hatchet (Lawn & Patio) Having had experience with other Fiskars outdoor tools, I purchased this and have used it about 2 months splitting small amounts of green hickory for my smoker. The handle is quite comfortable, the edge is sharp and hard, the tool is well balanced. I'd buy another. Was this review helpful to you? YesNo Report abuse | Permalink Comment Comment
3 of 3 people found the following review helpful Best hatchet I've owned, November 19, 2010 By como651 "Summit Guild" (Saint Paul, MN) This review is from: Fiskars 7850 X7 14-Inch Hatchet (Lawn & Patio) I've owned my Fiskars hatchet for around 5 years now. I did not resharpen it until after 4 years of using it camping and chopping down bushes and small trees around my house. Only got dull after it went into the sandy and rocky dirt a few dozen times while chopping close to the ground. It is easy to put a very sharp edge back on it with a sharpening stone within a couple of minutes. This axe came near razor sharp. I like the feel of this axe. Weight is focused at the head while the handle is light and comfortable. I had a tree fall on my property last weekend and this hatchet was excellent for removing all the smaller branches with just one or few strokes. The handle is surprisingly sturdy for being so light weight. Does not feel like it would ever break or the head to fall off. I would definitely buy another if I ever lost this axe. I say lost because I think this will never wear out. Should last a lifetime. I use this every camping trip except when I pack in, then I use the Fiskars retractable saw which weighs only a few ounces but can easily fit in a pack side pocket and cut apart 6 inch logs with ease. I bought one of these for my brother as a gift after seeing him use an old style all metal hatchet. He never went back. Was this review helpful to you? 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful Not very durable, January 16, 2012 This review is from: Fiskars 7850 X7 14-Inch Hatchet (Lawn & Patio) I purchased this item as a gift for a person who does a lot of camping. It loked like and rugged. I have a full size Fiskars Ax and have been pleased with it. The 14" hatchet I purchased broke on the first day. It actualy broke on the first piece of kindling he was splitting and went flying across the campsite. The handle just cracked. Granted it was cold out. Maybe 20deg.F but that's when you need to chop kindling and firewood....when it's cold. I sent it back to Amazon today and bought a steel handled hatchet. That won't break I'm sure. 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful Awsome Hatchet, May 24, 2011 This review is from: Fiskars 7850 X7 14-Inch Hatchet (Lawn & Patio) I was simply blown away by the amount of bite from this hatchet. If you are contemplating on purchasing this hatchet, my advice is to give Fiskar a chance. Sharp edge, easy to put an edge on, and durable. For camping, hunting, or backpacking, this tool is a must. Light weight and practical compared to my Estwing E44. For $25, it's a tool worth every penny and then some. Was this review helpful to you? YesNo Report abuse | Permalink Comment Comment
2 of 2 people found the following review helpful the ultimate hatchet, May 11, 2011 This review is from: Fiskars 7850 X7 14-Inch Hatchet (Lawn & Patio) This hatchet holds a razor edge. You need to purchase the sharpener to get the razor edge. It swings through small branches like they are made of butter. It is awesome, but be careful. Simply touching the blade will cut the skin.
