32 of 34 people found the following review helpful A welcome upgrade over the old noisemaker, June 25, 2010 This review is from: Air King BFQ 90 High Performance Bath Fan, 90-CFM (Tools & Home Improvement) Bought the 90 cfm/ sones unit to replace the builder's grade 50 cfm/4+ sones. The additional airflow was noticeable and the noise wasn't - just what I needed. The frame is all plastic, which means no rust, though seeing how the bracket, motor, and motor mount is steel, I wouldn't place too much value on that aspect. The box is more rigid than the typical bent steel box, however, so there is value in that - no rattles. Installation was a snap - literally. These units have a separate bracket that you screw into the joist, then snap the unit into place from below. It's much easier than the usual small-flange-at-the-edge mounting that other units use. Indeed, I spent less time installing this unit versus removing the old (working in a cramped attic space, nails to pry out, etc.) A plastic grommet and 3 wire nuts are included too - a nice touch. The included materials note that ventilation fans have a 5 year warranty, not just a 1 year, so the manufacturer is confident that it'll last. I hope so too, as I intend to purchase more to replace the other noisemakers. Was this review helpful to you? YesNo Report abuse | Permalink Comment Comments (2)
8 of 8 people found the following review helpful Great fan, troubled installation, November 17, 2010 This review is from: Air King BFQ 90 High Performance Bath Fan, 90-CFM (Tools & Home Improvement) It took me less than 2 minutes to remove the old fan and over 2 hours to install this Air King. I am very happy with the quiet, functional fan but the design of the fan made for a difficult installation. The design of this fan could have easily been slightly different and allowed for a much easier installation. After cutting a minimum size hole, I was unable to maneuver it from above or below and get it into the snap bracket. I finally found that if I remove the connector from the body that hooks up to the hose it can be inserted from below, but you still have to go into the attic to re-attach the hose connector and hose. Had the connector been directed away from the bracket instead of to the side, it is possible it could have been installed completely from below. Now that it's installed, I do enjoy this Air King fan. The air exhaust is superior to what I had before and much quieter. It is an excellent fan. Was this review helpful to you? YesNo Report abuse | Permalink Comment Comments (2)
9 of 11 people found the following review helpful AirKing bath fan, September 17, 2010 This review is from: Air King BFQ 90 High Performance Bath Fan, 90-CFM (Tools & Home Improvement) Yesterday I received the AirKing bath fan and decided to install it right after work. I had an old air king from 1967 which had to come out. That took me 2 hours and a mess to do. Then I realized that the original duct was only 3" in diameter while the recently purchaced AirKing was 4" in diameter. I picked up a 4" to 3" converter and snaped the whole thing together in 30 minutes! No more loud noise. I'm very happy with the New AirKing! Was this review helpful to you? 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful Much better than the competition, January 17, 2012 This review is from: Air King BFQ 140 High Performance Bath Fan, 120-CFM (Tools & Home Improvement) I did not know about this brand prior to buying it here on Amazon. I never had a doubt about its performance; I just made my purchase and found out that it is indeed easier to install than those that have been around for decades at the hardware stores. The installation can be tricky only if you do not follow the instructions. Aside from the time it took me to clear and clean up the area where I needed to install it, it took less than ten minutes. This was a replacement. The bracket can be bent if needed once you are trying to place it onto position after you secured it to the ceiling. This fan does its job well, just as any other; the difference is in the price. You pay here on Amazon about a third of even lower price of that of the other brands. Was this review helpful to you? 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful Good Replacement Fan, January 8, 2012 By Driver Ed (Goldens Bridge, NY (USA)) This review is from: Air King BFQ 110 High Performance Bath Fan, 100-CFM (Tools & Home Improvement) Bought it to replace a Broan and it replaced it easily. Nothing fancy, but decent power for the price. Does not come with a light, so if you need one, get a different fan. Was this review helpful to you? YesNo Report abuse | Permalink Comment Comment
2 of 2 people found the following review helpful The last fan you will ever need!, September 13, 2011 This review is from: Air King BFQ 90 High Performance Bath Fan, 90-CFM (Tools & Home Improvement) I've been nagging my hsuband to change the fan in the bathroom for the past 3 years! He finally started to look for them and saw this one got really good reviews. We purchased it and installed it. We love it! It works so great and it's pretty quite... If I have to replace the one in the downstairs bathroom I will definately buy this one again! Was this review helpful to you? YesNo Report abuse | Permalink Comment Comment
2 of 2 people found the following review helpful Not quiet enough, April 25, 2011 By L. Zhou (Philadelphia, PA) This review is from: Air King BFQ 90 High Performance Bath Fan, 90-CFM (Tools & Home Improvement) I have three different -Sone fans. Sound wise this one is the worst. Only this model produce a low frequency humming noise. It makes me feel like the motor is struggling to work. Maybe the motor coil is out of balance? The price is good. But I will not buy this model again. Was this review helpful to you? YesNo Report abuse | Permalink Comment Comment
2 of 2 people found the following review helpful Installation Instructions are only good for new construction, April 11, 2011 This review is from: Air King BFQ 90 High Performance Bath Fan, 90-CFM (Tools & Home Improvement) The fan itself is just what I wanted and at a great price. Reasonably quiet and much quieter than the "contractor grade" fan from a big box. However, if you are installing in old work, the instructions just don't work. If you cut the hole like they say, then install the fan holding bracket like they say, you cannot install the fan from below. I had to install it from the attic side by bending the bracket up to get the fan in. Then the bracket didn't hold the fan so that I had to bend the bracket back into position with the fan in place. Not so easy, but so far the fan is staying up. Was this review helpful to you? YesNo Report abuse | Permalink Comment Comment (1)
2 of 2 people found the following review helpful Quiet and easy to install., December 29, 2010 This review is from: Air King BFQ 90 High Performance Bath Fan, 90-CFM (Tools & Home Improvement) Replaced a 50 with this 90 cfm. This is quieter than the smaller unit replaced. I had to cut the existing hole to make the new unit fit but that was easy. Install was fast and easy. Directions very clear. I had to work with the exhaust venting as this one is a full inch larger but an easy duct tape fix. Was this review helpful to you? YesNo Report abuse | Permalink Comment Comment
