4 of 4 people found the following review helpful Very Good Caulk Gun, May 24, 2010 By Matthew Robinson "teknofile" (boston) This review is from: COX 21001 Wexford II 10.3-Ounce Cartridge Manual Skeleton Fiberglass Caulk Gun (Tools & Home Improvement) I have used this gun for a few jobs now. Other reviewers are right that the light weight of the gun makes a difference, and that the fiberglass body prevents you from marking up other surfaces during use. On the one hand, I was surprised that the handle flexed when I was laying down very viscous caulking, although despite this flexing in the handle, the gun seems like it will last some time. I have also found that with more viscous caulk, the gun does not leak when I lay it down between runs of caulk, although with the LIGHTER caulk, there is SOME leaking - not, however, as much as with the other guns I have used in the past. I rate this gun four stars because the black, built-in seal-breaking pin is virtually useless. Its attachment to the gun is poorly designed, and it will inevitably get lost. It might seem like a small detail, but there are times - like when you're up on a roof without another alternative for breaking the seal in the caulk - you really want a good, built-in pin. As a work-around, just tape on a piece of metal wire or something comparable. Despite this flaw, I am impressed enough with the weight, precision of the piston control, and general ease of use to plan on buying another one for a friend, who is starting home renovations soon. Easily the best caulking gun I'll ever have the pleasure of using., January 23, 2012 This review is from: COX 21001 Wexford II 10.3-Ounce Cartridge Manual Skeleton Fiberglass Caulk Gun (Tools & Home Improvement) After well over a decade, possibly more, my old Newborn caulking gun decided to be non functional on me. However, instead of buying another Newborn brand, as most of their caulking guns are made in China, I wanted a caulking gun that was made in USA. Then I found the COX brand and have never looked back since. Not only is half as heavy as my Newborn caulking gun (this caulking gun is made out of quality nylon) but for the first time in all the years of caulking I've done, I finally found a caulking gun that won't cause the caulk I am using to drip. Essentially, this caulking gun incorporates drip free technology. What that means is that I no longer have to do some caulking, then pull back and then resume like I had to for the longest time with my Newborn caulking gun. That used to drive me crazy and not ever having to do that ever again is worth buying alone. What I also really like about this caulking gun is the quality of the plunger and the fact it's all one unit. The Rod is made out quality steel, in addition, this rod has a nice finish as well. In addition, the trigger on this caulking gun significantly much better than my old Newborn. Instead of having to use a great deal of pressure/tension, this trigger usage is rather seamless. An added bonus, this caulking gun comes with a caulk pointer, this was quite useful when I did roof patching and the caulk I used is much denser than the regular types of caulk I use. All and all, this is easily the greatest caulking gun I'll ever use and I only recommend Cox brand caulking guns now. Made in USA, affordable and actually live up their claims on the packaging label. The other caulking gun brands I tried (Workforce, Newborn etc) weren't nearly as good this brand and typically were twice the price, despite the fact their products aren't made in USA or at least not anymore. I highly recommend this and would wager to say, this is a caulking gun that even a professional contractor would use. Was this review helpful to you? YesNo Report abuse | Permalink Comment Comment
Nice Lightweight Caulking Gun, January 5, 2011 This review is from: COX 21001 Wexford II 10.3-Ounce Cartridge Manual Skeleton Fiberglass Caulk Gun (Tools & Home Improvement) This is a nice, lightweight caulking gun. The fiberglass frame is sturdy enough, but doesn't scratch surrounding surfaces as a metal one does. The metal rod slides smoothly and backs-off automatically when the trigger is released, which stops the flow and gives you time to hit the pressure release thumb plate, a good system. Great Caulk gun, September 14, 2010 By MK "MKOSU04" (Farmington Hills, MI) This review is from: COX 21001 Wexford II 10.3-Ounce Cartridge Manual Skeleton Fiberglass Caulk Gun (Tools & Home Improvement) This is a great caulk gun... I didn't realize it wasn't metal when I ordered it (guess I didn't read very close) but that hasn't been an issue. I've probably used 20 or more tubes of caulk with it now and its still working great. It does a good job of releasing the pressure when you let go... if you are pumping hard on the caulk you might still have to hit the thumb-release to keep the caulk from oozing out. But during normal use it usually doesn't "leak" when you set the gun down. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that it doesn't have a way of cutting the tip off the tube. My old caulk gun (that died after 5 years of use) had a spot on the handle that would cut the tip off the tube. Not a big deal since you are likely to have a razor knife with you anyway. But a potential improvement for the product. Was this review helpful to you? YesNo Report abuse | Permalink Comment Comment
Solid, inexpensive, no frills, caulk gun., November 15, 2009 By Michael Andrew Streib (Mountain View, CA United States) This review is from: COX 21001 Wexford II 10.3-Ounce Cartridge Manual Skeleton Fiberglass Caulk Gun (Tools & Home Improvement) Just like the picture. Relatively sturdy construction. The moving parts fit well together and the operation is as smooth as you could expect from this type of design. Nothing fancy here, but works well. Best Caulk Gun for the Money, October 8, 2009 By Alex Panzer (New York) This review is from: COX 21001 Wexford II 10.3-Ounce Cartridge Manual Skeleton Fiberglass Caulk Gun (Tools & Home Improvement) I bought this caulking gun to remodel my bathroom. I did extensive research on caulk guns before I decided and bought this one, and I can say that this is a really good caulking gun. The weight and handling are the best features of this product. The quality plastic makes it possible for the gun to be fairly lighter than the metal guns. The black poking needle thing can be easily removed and attached if desired. I have no regrets of purchasing this gun and am sure that it will last me a long time, not that I will you it a lot. Was this review helpful to you? YesNo Report abuse | Permalink Comment Comment
2 of 5 people found the following review helpful This works better than I thought it would., July 18, 2009 By M. Frobisher (St. Petersburg, FL USA) This review is from: COX 21001 Wexford II 10.3-Ounce Cartridge Manual Skeleton Fiberglass Caulk Gun (Tools & Home Improvement) Everyone uses those pressed-tin caulk guns. When you whip this baby out, your friends will look upon it in stunned awe. This is to a usual caulk gun as a Glock is to a cap pistol. Does it do a better job? Well, not really. I mean, it's pushing goo from a tube. But it's more comfortable to use with its long trigger. And it looks really cool. Well, you know, after using this guy for a while (like two years later,) I've changed my mind. It does do a better job. It has almost no "backlash", that is, as soon as you stop pushing the trigger, the goop stops coming out. The exception seems to be the occasional tube of goop with an air bubble in it. All the cheap metal ones I've had seem to continue to push out the goop for a moment after you release the trigger. Was this review helpful to you? YesNo Report abuse | Permalink Comment Comment
