60 of 65 people found the following review helpful How I Survived the Heatwave of 2010, September 2, 2010 This review is from: Delonghi PACC120E 12,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner (Kitchen) Had it for two months. It cools down the entire first floor of my townhouse, a large combined livingroom/diningroom (about 800 sq ft). Set it up in five minutes. It's bigger than I thought and more beige than the image implies, but works so well that I'll buy another for the second floor next summer. The electric bills have been minimal. 41 of 46 people found the following review helpful Portable Air Conditioners Much better than Window Units, September 18, 2010 This review is from: Delonghi PACC120E 12,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner (Kitchen) Purchased several of these to replace bulky and unsafe window air conditioners in my apartments. Nice looking and the exhaust/intake hose is much nicer that a unit sitting in a window. Good bye window units. Works also as fan or dehumidfier too! Like the remote control with digital thermostat to maintain temp or timer if want to shut off after awhile when unattended. Was this review helpful to you? 38 of 45 people found the following review helpful As advertised..., June 2, 2010 By sarah bernhardt (Manhattan) This review is from: Delonghi PACC120E 12,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner (Kitchen) After using it for a week in a 800sf space, it's working beautifully. I'm not looking forward to getting my Con Ed bill, but sweating isn't an option for us! Was this review helpful to you? YesNo Report abuse | Permalink Comment Comments (10)
5 of 5 people found the following review helpful Does not work for long, July 28, 2011 By niles at the beach (SC) This review is from: Delonghi PACC120E 12,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner (Kitchen) Purchased PAC C120E on 6.6.2010 and used it 3 times that summer for 6 hours each time and the unit worked fine. Went to use unit on 6.30.2011 and it did not cool. Compressor and fan run but no cooling. The refrigerant leaked out of the unit over the winter. Called Delonghi and they will cover parts but not labor or shipping to them even though unit is just over 12 months old. Labor to repair is $165 and packing and shipping is about $100-they will pay the return shipping. They could do nothing to help with the cost. For a little more $ I could buy a new unit with a warrantee BUT I would NEVER buy another Delonghi unit again. For a unit that won't last a year it's not worth taking a chance Was this review helpful to you? YesNo Report abuse | Permalink Comment Comment
10 of 12 people found the following review helpful Creates Negative Pressure - Poor Choice for Hot Climates, July 11, 2011 This review is from: Delonghi PACC120E 12,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner (Kitchen) This is an attractive looking unit that may sufficiently cool a room in mild climates. However, the single-hose setup creates a strong negative pressure in the room (the unit takes air from the room to blow through the exhaust; there is no intake hose). This is bad for two reasons: 1. The unit is blowing already cooled air (money) back outside. 2. Pulling room air outside causes hot air to flow in from other rooms and from outside through gaps in the doors and the window where the exhaust is installed. I live in southern Texas where the temperature regularly hits 100 degrees Fahrenheit. The amount of heat drawn back into the room because of the negative pressure created by this AC unit almost cancels out its cooling capacity, even in a small room. While sealing off the window with the AC exhaust may partially remedy the second problem, it doesn't address the inefficiency caused by sucking cooled air back outside through the unit. Sealing off a room completely is not a solution because the unit requires ventilation to function properly. A dual-hose unit (one with an intake and exhaust hose) or a split unit would be a better product in this situation. The fan in the unit is very quiet. Unfortunately, this near-silence is shattered when the compressor kicks in. The compressor start-up is more than enough to wake someone up if the unit is placed in a bedroom. These problems aside, I like the shape and style of the AC, and the built-in dehumidifier seems like it would be useful. This unit was very quickly and easily set up. A permanent washable electrostatic filter saves from costly filter replacements. The timer and built in cut-off thermometer would save energy and money if it wasn't for the performance issues mentioned above. I will be replacing this AC with a dual-hosed model or (regrettably) a window unit. Was this review helpful to you? YesNo Report abuse | Permalink Comment Comments (2)
10 of 12 people found the following review helpful Exhaust fan wobbles., June 28, 2011 This review is from: Delonghi PACC120E 12,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner (Kitchen) I just got this in today. I hooked it up and turned it on. At first the fan turns on. A minute later, the exhaust fan starts turning, thats when it sounds like someone is putting paper strips into fan. The problem is that the fan housing for the exhaust is all styrofoam and the centrifugal blower is not exactly balanced. As the fan turns, it wobbles 1/4 inch back and forth. This is causing the fan to grind into the styrofoam fan housing. You cant get to the fan unless you remove the high pressure side of the AC plumbing, so forget about fixing it. Ill probably take this out to the shooting range next winter. DO NOT BUY IT. Was this review helpful to you? YesNo Report abuse | Permalink Comment Comments (4)
7 of 9 people found the following review helpful Not Happy with this purchase at all, July 2, 2011 This review is from: Delonghi PACC120E 12,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner (Kitchen) I am sending mine back asap! First off it came looking as though it was not brand new but used. It had scratches and fingerprints and was all dirty. This is the 3rd item from Amazon lately that I have questioned it being used/pre-owned. Second, it is leaking like mad. My living room carpet is saturated in a large radius all around the air conditioner. It seems to be coming from internally. Probably the reason it was returned by someone else prior and repackaged and sent to me. Pretty sickening when you pay this kind of money for something that is supposed to be brand new and shows up in the condition it did. Not happy with this at all or amazon at the moment. The only positive I have to say is if the machine actually came brand new like you pay for and worked, it would probably be worth it. Was this review helpful to you? 4 of 5 people found the following review helpful I wouldn't recommend, July 12, 2011 This review is from: Delonghi PACC120E 12,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner (Kitchen) I bought this a/c from Fry's. I was very disappointed especially for the price which was $449. We have a small area of maybe 400 square feet max. It doesn't cool the area any better than a fan. Not too mention after 4 hours of use you have to dump the water which is very inconvenient. To drain there is just a hole a couple inches from the bottom of unit that you pop the lid off to let the water drain out. We have to roll it outside of our 2nd story apartment just to let it drain. I WOULD NOT recommend this A/C to anyone. It was a waste of money. I would return it if I could. Was this review helpful to you? YesNo Report abuse | Permalink Comment Comment
4 of 5 people found the following review helpful Unit needs to be emptied of water each day with frequent use, July 10, 2011 This review is from: Delonghi PACC120E 12,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner (Kitchen) The first one we ordered came broken, but Amazon was good enough to have UPS come and pick it up (it's a fairly heavy item). We got our second one, and we do like it quite a bit. It cools down our bedroom and could probably cool down the back of our townhouse (a medium sized bedroom, a small bedroom and a bathroom). However one thing we haven't seen in any of the reviews is that you need to drain the water after around every 4-5 hours of use (we set it at 75 degrees). The unit stops and lets you know with a code when it's time to do it. The manual didn't explain this very well but the water it produces has to go somewhere so we're not overly surprised. The drain hole is very low on the unit so if you have problems bending down this is something to take into consideration. Last thing is our window is slightly higher than normal so we had to stack it up on some boards for the air vent to reach the window. The extension would be a wise choice if you know you can't put it right next to your window and if the window is a bit higher up. Overall we are happy with the unit and it works as advertised!
